Safety and Health at Work

Safety and Health at Work

24th Apr 2023

World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an annual international campaign to promote safe and healthy working conditions. It was launched in 2003 by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and is observed every year on April 28.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work raises awareness of the importance of occupational safety and health and encourages governments, employers, workers, and other stakeholders to actively work together to improve safety and health in the workplace. As a business that specializes in providing personal protective equipment (PPE), safety, and sanitation supplies, Unisan Direct is proud to join the global celebration of this day.

At Unisan Direct, we believe that workplace safety and health is not only an important part of doing business, but a moral imperative. We take our commitment to workplace safety and health seriously. That’s why we are constantly striving to improve our products and services. We provide our customers with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about the products they purchase. We understand that every industry has unique safety and health concerns that require the implementation of specific safety and health protocols.

In the food and beverage production industry, health and safety are imperative to both the employees and the customers! Whenever food is involved allergens, cross-contamination, and viruses such as E Coli, Salmonella, and Norovirus are serious health concerns! To minimize the risk of these concerns, a company can implement color-coded cleaning tools for cleaning and for food handling. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is extremely important for food handling and production. Common PPE items for food production include disposable gloves, bouffant or hair nets, sleeves, aprons, ear plugs, masks, and safety glasses. Food Safe Disinfectant and Sanitation Supplies are also imperative to eliminating bacteria and viruses from surfaces and tools used in food production. All these elements build the foundation for Health and Safety in a Food Industry Work Environment!

Manufacturing can be a particularly dangerous working environment if safety precautions aren’t taken to ensure safety! The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) outlines regulations and standards to ensure a safe and healthy working environment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, hearing protection and respirators should be worn by employees when necessary to protect against potential hazards. Proper training should also be provided to employees to ensure they understand safety protocols and procedures. Additionally, employers should regularly inspect the facility and equipment for any potential hazards and take the necessary steps to address them. Common manufacturing hazards are trips, falls, hearing damage, extreme temperatures, or cuts.

Laboratories and biotechnology facilities must adhere to the highest standards of safety protocols. Common hazards are exposure to hazardous chemicals, biological agents, and radioactive hazards. All personnel must wear personal protective equipment, such as gloves, safety glasses, hair restraints, and clothing protection such as coveralls or lab coats, or shoe covers. Frequently, laboratories and biotech facilities must adhere to FDA regulations or particulate specifications for cleanroom requirements. Cleanroom rank is also an important aspect, as all cleanroom PPE is designed to prevent particulate contaminations and meet the stringent requirements of the cleanroom industry.

To ensure the safety of patients, employees, and visitors, healthcare organizations must take steps to reduce the spread of potential illnesses and infections. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protects healthcare workers and patients from exposure to contagious illnesses. Maintaining clean hands in healthcare settings is standard practice in medical settings. Frequent hand washing with hand soap, use of hand sanitizers, and use of gloves ensure hands are always clean and germs are not spread from person to person! Disinfectant wipes, sprays, and other sanitation supplies help reduce the spread of illnesses and infections. Healthcare organizations must also ensure that all staff and visitors adhere to the latest health and safety guidelines to minimize the risk of exposure to contagious diseases and viruses.

Building Managers, Janitors and Commercial Cleaners help other businesses maintain clean and healthy environments. Many cleaning chemicals are toxic and should not be mixed with other cleaning chemicals. Therefore, companies should offer proper safety training on chemicals. Additionally, proper ventilation should always be considered when using cleaning chemicals. Personal Protective Equipment, such as Gloves, Masks, and Slip Resistant Shoes, should be used!

At Unisan Direct, we understand that workplace safety and health are of paramount importance, and we are committed to providing our customers with the safety and health supplies they need to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. On this World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we encourage employers in all industries to prioritize the safety and health of their employees.
