Safety vs. Contamination
PPE can serve to protect against a variety of different Precautions. PPE for Safety is meant to minimize the risk of the user. Safety PPE protects the user from physical, chemical and biohazard risks. In some cases, PPE is meant to minimize the risk of contamination of a controlled environment. These controlled environments can be Food Processing Facilities, Laboratories, or Cleanrooms.
PPE for Controlled Environments:
In controlled environments such as cleanrooms and laboratories, Particulate and Contamination is tracked and regulated. Cleanrooms are used in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, biotech, medical devices, and other similar industries.
In these controlled environments, Workers must wear PPE that is designed to prevent additional particulate to be introduced to the environment. Bouffant Cap, Lab Coats, Gloves and Shoe Covers are all required. Depending on the ranking, more strict rules for PPE could be in place.
Food Industry PPE:
Food Safety is incredibly important and heavily regulated within the food industry. PPE for Food Safety protects the food, workers, and the customers! Protecting food and customers during preparations helps minimize the risks of food spoilage or cross contamination. Common PPE worn to protect food is gloves, bouffant or hairnets, sleeves, aprons, masks, and safety glasses. But different industries require different types of PPE.
PPE for Safety and Manufacturing:
Industries such as Manufacturing and Construction can be dangerous jobs. PPE is meant to minimize exposure to hazards and lower the risk of injuries. There are many different types of PPE that can help protect employees. Hard hats are a crucial part of protecting the head from injury. Safety Glasses and Hearing Protection are also commonplace in manufacturing and construction sites. Gloves can provide extra protection for the hands! There are different gloves for different types of hazards, there are rankings of cut resistant, chemical resistant, and heat resistant gloves!
